Free Composite Video Training from Legend Ted Boardman

Hi All

Ted has uploaded some of his presentations from EUE, in which he focused on 3ds Max Composite and the advantages it brings to the rendering workflow. Composite is a great feature to experiment with, and one I would recommend utilising more for post-processing.

If your not familiar with who, the award winning, Ted is, then he’s a freelance trainer who covers fundamental concepts in 3ds Max. These techniques are primarily concerned with the efficient use of 3ds Max, focusing on workflows that are not always obvious. Ted is also a published author, most recently co-authoring with Joep van der Steen. If you ever are lucky enough to have Ted giving a local talk at an event, then I highly recommend attending.

Hi All

I will be presenting the 2012 3ds Max Entertainment Creation Suite at a special Education Event in Birmingham on the 23rd June. This is being organised by Academia and promises to have some interesting sessions including one by Chaos Group, showcasing Vray for 3ds Max.

Some of the many workflows covered will be focusing on:

• The new Nitrous Viewport improvements and considerations
• UVW unwrapping workflows
• Xbox Kinnect interoperability
• Motion Builder single-step workflows
• and the extremely powerful MassFX tools

My 3ds Max Class at EUE is now live

Hi All

My "End User Event" (EUE) class description is now live. At the EUE I will be teaching the below workflows.... and having a local beer of course.

Title: "SMUT"  (Some of Max's Underused Tools)

Description: This class will focus on some of 3ds Max's underused tools, spanning the worlds of Design Visualisation and Media & Entertainment. Using real-world solutions this class will highlight the advantage that 3ds Max toolset brings to production workflows. Learn from Jamie's experience of working with leading European Architectural companies and entertainment companies. Explore the principles of tools and workflows that are under-used in 3ds Max but that can help you become more productive whilst staying creative. This class should help everyone that wants to create compelling work, but has to fight a tight budget. Jamie brings over 14 years of high end experience in various companies and roles. This class promises to be a fast look at a broad range of toolsets and workflows.

Stay informed about future 3ds Max (M&E) Events

Morning All

I've received a large amount of emails recently about how you can stay informed about future 3ds Max events, and learn how the latest features are intended to be used, along with a large dose of tips and tricks. I know for many of you these events are invaluable to gain a strong competitive advantage (and have a beer of course.)

To help with this we have created a new and simple registration page that will ensure you receive official Autodesk newsletters. These newsletters will only contain important information regarding events that are relevant to your details.

I would encourage all of you to signup, even if you have subscribed to other Autodesk Newsletters before. Unfortunately it seem's that some of the regular faces that I enjoy having chats with at events,  no longer attend, due to not receiving the invites. It would therefore appear that some people have been lost off the previous database or accidentally un-subscribed. To ensure you are kept informed, please signup again via the below link:

How the Metropolitan Police use 3ds Max

Hi All

Don't forget that tonight, Mark from the Metropolitan Police will be presenting at the London 3ds Max User Group. I've had the opportunity to work with Mark on a number of occasions, and can guarantee he will provide an interesting talk and insight into how he and his team utilise 3ds Max for crime scene reconstructions. His team has worked on countless extremely high-profile cases, and is undoubtedly one of the leading experts in this area.

3ds Max continues to be used by countless governments, police forces, military organisations and forensics companies (approximately 10% of the install base). However, this type of work is, understandably, not able to always be shown in the public domain. Therefore this session will provide a unique and insightful look at just how accurate and adaptable 3ds Max and other Autodesk products can be in this complex area of expertise. This is certainly one user group you will not want to miss.

"...On Wednesday 4^thMay we have an excellent presentation;  Mark DeGiovanni is a 3D modeller and Analyst at the Metropolitan Police Service Computer Aided Modelling Bureau. The small team is recognized as one of the most experienced in the world, reconstructing crime scenes as 2D plans and 3D computer models since 1992. They use a range of surveying, photogrammetry and modelling techniques to analyse geometric variables within crime scenes for use in Court Presentations. Mark will be presenting three real cases showing some of the elements of their work, and of course how the team use 3ds Max.."

You will see I have two sessions, one on 3ds Max 2012 and the other jointly with my colleague Graham, where will be showing you many highlights from the recent Entertainment Creation Suite's.

"Neil Clark, founder of Eyelevel, has curated Visioning The Future. An exhibition currently taking place at the RIBA, it aims to inspire visitors and highlight the role of architectural visualisation in realising great modern buildings, from epic cityscape to fine detail. Neil will be talking through how he (and other members of the 3ds London User Group) use Max to do so!

Marcel Reimer from Procedural is coming along to show the group their latest version of CityEngine, and to show us some recent projects and talk about future developments.

As always, the group always enjoys other people’s projects, so bring something along!"
