OK, so Monday’s are the day when I’m typically still half asleep and wishing it was the weekend still, so what better way to start a blog post then highlight the 3ds Max work on Katy Perry’s latest music video (premiered on June 19th), entitled “Wide Awake.”
(Of course the only down side to this post, is the amount of spam responses that will be generated from the inter-web-spam-bots hunting for the name Katy Perry, still at least I never wrote Justin Bieber…. oh wait)
The video was featured on Studio Daily’s website, and highlights some of the 140 shots which feature set extensions, matte paintings, vfx, and impressive 3d elements, of course, all produced in Stereo.

Below is the full video, directed by Tony T. Datis from production company DNA, with the 3d work created by VFX studio, Ingenuity Engine (IEVFX) founder and Creative Director David Lebensfeld.
“For the ground-crumbling segment, we projected our hallway extension onto some pre-fractured geometry, and then ran multiple simulations on that geometry to make it crumble and fall into the ground. We used Rayfire, MassFX, and Particle Flow in 3ds Max” – David Lebensfeld
To read the behind the scenes and examine before and after shots, I recommend you follow this link to Studio Dailys full article. Before you do, here is the final video, to give you a taste of what is being discussed.
