Morning All
Do you use Motion Capture (MoCap) data? Yes, then don’t forget that the Animation Store 30% discount ends tomorrow, 12th June.
Today is the perfect time to take advantage of this and save on purchasing MoCap content for upcoming projects. Don’t forget that the benefit of using the Autodesk Animation Store directly within 3ds Max 2013, is it allows you to preview thousands of animations directly within your viewport on the actual Rig (Biped or CAT). See below for the menu location on how to use this. Within this interface, you can also purchase Hundreds of royalty free characters. In fact all the content from this Animation Store is royalty free, allowing you to create and share the end-result without worry.

This service is provided by our friends at Mixamo, who in conjunction with Autodesk have integrated a one-click purchasing system. All of the animation clips can be customised, and edited using 3ds Max’s normal tools.
Once the dialogue box is opened, you have the ability to perform a keyword “Motion Search.” A good free example to look for is “Samba.” This shows the quality of the available clips.
It’s also worth knowing that the documentation and tutorials are translated into 6 different languages.

A YouTube video example of the Animation Store integration can be found below:
Whilst we are looking at Mixamo’s and Autodesk’s Animation Store, we should also take a look at their Auto-Rigger tool for CAT and Biped’s. This toolset is currently in Beta, but is free for characters with less than 10k tri’s. If using on high-poly models,a fee of $89 is applicable.
The below procedure is wonderfully simple: (Click to enlarge image.)
Click here to use the Auto-Rigger. To obtain access to the Auto-rigging tools you are required to create a free account. From there, you can then convert it to a CAT or Biped rig using the below tools.
1. Get the Auto-CAT script here.
2. Get the Auto-Biped scipt here.
(Note, both scripts currently requires Mixamo Auto-rigged Characters as an input, and, at the moment, support 3ds Max 2010 > 2012.)
You can find a Q&A with Mixamo here, in which they discuss trends in character animation.
Don’t forget the Animation Store 30% discount ends tomorrow, 12th June.
Happy Max’ing
