Morning All
I was recently sent a promotional video, and I feel it’s worth sharing with you all as well. This video was created by Nvidia and discusses some of their latest technology with 3ds Max and the included iray render engine.
The workflow shows how a user can take data from Inventor (export via .ipt and .iam), then reuse this data inside 3ds Max, in conjunction with the latest offerings in the Subscription Advantage Pack for interactive Activeshade rendering.
The technology that Nvidia are showcasing is called ‘Maximus.’ For those of you that attend the London 3ds Max User Group, then you may remember Nvidia discussing this at one of the recent gatherings. This allows you to use a Quadro card and a Tesla card in conjunction with each other, but assigning each one different tasks. In the below example they use the Tesla for rendering, and leave the Quadro for windows based tasks. This ensures your machine does not grind to a halt.
Needless to say, as its a promotional video, there is an expected sales pitch included. For me, however, the over-riding take-away is how the GPU industry is rapidly evolving. I wonder what relationship CG and GPU’s will have in 18mnths? Looking at how far we have progressed in less than 10mnths, we should have exciting times ahead of us, whether its for rendering tasks or simulations.
Happy Max’ing
