Morning All
When working in 3ds Max I will often want to lock an objects transforms (position/rotation/scale) so it can not be moved in one, or multiple axis’s. Luckily in 3ds Max this is a simple operation to perform.
With the relevant object selected, navigate to the ‘Hierarchy’ Panel, and from their select the ‘Link Info’ button, within the command panel.
Now toggle the relevant ‘Locks Rollout’ options to suit the task.
The ‘tick’ highlights that it is locked in this direction, and the relevant transform will only work on the axis that is ‘unchecked.’
It is also worth quickly mentioning the below options. These are useful when working with objects that are linked or have a parent/child relationship. These options will ensure the object (child) only moves in the chosen axis when the parent object moves in the same direction. Sounds confusing, but give it a try with a linked object, and you will see the opportunities this ‘inheritance’ brings.
This is extremely useful when wanting to ensure animated objects cant get moved in the wrong direction, or cameras transforms can’t be accidentally amended directly within the active viewport.
Happy Max’ing
